Governor urges students to make a habit of reading books

SHIMLA-4e August 2022-Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar called on students to commit to reading books apart from textbooks. He asked them to share their experiences of reading the book by writing letters to him.

The Governor was addressing the 12e annual award function of Government Degree College Seraj at Lambathach in Thunag sub-division of Mandi district today. He was present as a guest of honor and Dr. Sadhna Thakur, Chairperson of the Welfare Section of the State Red Cross Hospital was also present on the occasion.

He said that students must evolve towards autonomy. In college, we get to get specific values ​​and education, but the goal of education shouldn’t just be a job seeker. We should be a provider of jobs, he added. Keeping this in mind, we have to get an education and this was the demand of the future. He said the government has launched many programs and startups in this direction. He said that the annual function of any educational institution provides an opportunity to exchange ideas. That is why they were also called ‘Milan Karyakram’. He said that this college has made tremendous progress in the short span of its existence, for which the leadership of the college deserves to be appreciated.

Shri Arlekar said college was a center of culture and it made us decide what we wanted to do through education and in which direction we wanted to go. He said that all college-related memories were the most memorable ones that would be remembered throughout life. He also reminisced about his college days and shared the experiences of that time with the students. He urged students to always remember their parents’ contribution.

The Governor said the country was celebrating its 75e year of independence. The Prime Minister called for the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign from August 13 to 15e. He urged students to participate in this campaign themselves and inspire others as well.

“If the younger generation moves in this direction, then our future will be secure. Each person should think about the country and the society. It is our duty because this idea decides the future of the country”, declared the Governor.

On this occasion, the Governor rewarded students who excelled in various activities and academic levels. The award for ‘Seraj Gaurav’ for the year 2019-20 went to Divya Bharti and Kushal Chand for the year 2020-21.

Earlier, Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Principal of Government College Seraj paid tribute to the Governor and read the annual report of the college.

Artists from the Seraj Theater Group also performed on this occasion.

Governor’s Secretary Rajesh Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Mandi Arindam Chaudhary, Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri, Vice Chancellor of Sardar University Patel Mandi, Professor Anupama Singh and other prominent figures from the region were also present at the occasion.
