The Darien Library Materials Management Department has a part-time position open in our shelving team. We are looking for an energetic and organized individual who will work effectively to keep the Library’s collections in order.

duties and responsibilities

The shelving team is responsible for managing all returned library materials (on average 1000 per day) and getting them back to the shelves quickly, efficiently and in good condition. Our unique automated material handling system makes it easy to check in and sort items. The shelves are responsible for learning how to work with the automated system and how to troubleshoot problems when they arise. Other duties include carrying out inventory projects and managing reservations.

Skills and qualifications

The ideal candidate is friendly, helpful and customer service oriented. They must be able to work well both independently and as a team. The position requires physical strength to stand for several hours, push book carts, reach and bend to store items. To be considered, a candidate must demonstrate a solid basic knowledge of computers and be willing to learn the software used for all library services.

Calendar

This is a part-time position that will include weekdays, evenings and up to two weekends per month. The candidate must be prepared to work at least 10 hours per week, but will not exceed 29 hours per week.
