QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – Books play an important role in everyone’s life because they introduce us to a world of imagination and help us strengthen our memory and sharpen our critical thinking.
“The importance of books in our life cannot be compromised as they not only help to broaden our horizons, but also serve as doors to connect us to the world around us,” said the National Commission for Culture and the Arts – National Library and Information Council The President of the System (NCCA-NCLIS), Professor Salvacion M. Arlante, at the closing ceremony of National Book Week on November 30.
Professor Arlante also added that books allow us to travel to places and times we cannot reach, especially now that we are confined to the confines of our homes.
Reading books gives solutions and a new perspective to look at the things and situations we face on a daily basis.
“I encourage everyone to celebrate books and reading not only during Book Week, but also every day of your life,” said Professor Arlante.
Arlante added that let your life be touched by beautiful novels, let your heart be inspired by motivational readings, and let your mind be fondled with bright and new ideas.
As we celebrate National Book Week (NBW), library associations and their stakeholders have emphasized that libraries, books and archives are not only custodians of our artistic and cultural expressions.
“They are also sources of pride as they illustrate the diversity of expressions of our country,” said Chris Millado, vice president and artistic director of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Mr. Millado added that the role of librarians and archivists is not only that of technicians but practically guardians or guardians of the best of our cultural expressions in the country.
National Book Week (NBW) is celebrated from November 24 to 30 under the Presidential Proclamation Series No.109 of 1936.
