Reading books will help in gaining knowledge: Gangula Kamalakar

BC Welfare Minister Gangula Kamalakar kicks off the book fair in Karimnagar on Wednesday.

Karimnagar: British Columbia Minister of Welfare and Civil Supplies Gangula Kamalakar said reading books will help people gain knowledge and many have come to prominence through reading books. He was speaking after opening the week-long book fair jointly organized by Hyderabad Book Fair and Telangana Book Trust on International Women’s Day at the Jyothiba Phule grounds here on Wednesday.

Kamalakar said Karimnagar is known for its great writers and artists. The books would bring about changes in society. Calling Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao a book lover, the Minister said that the Chief Minister has successfully continued the Telangana agitation without any interruption and has attained a separate state as the latter has studied thousands of books . Besides studying dozens of books, former Prime Minister PV Narsimha Rao also wrote a number of books and made a name for himself as an economist across the world, he added.

Writer Dr. C Narayana Reddy, Sanskrit Pandit and Padma award winner Vibhushan Sribhashyam Vijayasaradhi and multilingual Nalimela Bhaskar have earned high reputations in their professions. Calling on parents to encourage students to read books, the minister ensured the supply of famous books to all government and gurukulam schools in the district. Informing that 20,000 books were exhibited in 50 booths at the book fair, he asked people to visit the book fair and buy the books of their choice.

BC Welfare Department Principal Secretary Burra Venkatesham advised parents to develop the habit of reading books in children by providing them with famous books. For children to acquire more knowledge, he said. Emphasizing the need to provide a rich education for girls, he said an informed society could develop into a healthy society. President of Telangana Sahitya Academy Juluri Gourishankar said that it is possible to beat poverty and achieve higher positions in life. Reading books would help to acquire knowledge and culture.

Mayor of Karimnagar Y Sunil Rao, MLA Sunke Ravishankar, Collector RV Karnan, Additional Collectors Garima Agarwal and GV Shyamprasad Lal, Assistant Collector Mayank Mittal, Chairman of SUDA GV Ramakrishna Rao, Chairman of Enugu District Libraries Ravinder Reddy and others participated in the inaugural session.
