Classic stories, 1980s films and female pop singers mingle with Broadway mainstays like “Cats” and “Les Miserables” in the just-announced 2022-23 Broadway on Hennepin season.

The lineup includes musicals based on the lives and music of female pop singers. “TINA – The Tina Turner Musical” and “Jagged Little Pill” (based on music by Morissette) will debut in Minnesota. “Beautiful – The Carole King Musical” returns.

Other Broadway productions debuting in Twin Cities include Harper Lee’s “Beetlejuice,” “Tootsie,” and “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

HTT previously announced the return of popular musical “Wicked” to kick off the 2022-23 season of 10 shows with a five-week broadcast from July 27 to August 27. 28.

Favorite musicals returning to the lineup are “Les Misérables”, “Hairspray” and “Cats”.

The Broadway on Hennepin series draws more than 300,000 people to theaters, “reviving” downtown Minneapolis — from restaurants to drive-through services, said Mark Nerenhausen, president and CEO of Hennepin Theater Trust.

Viewers have personal reasons for choosing to see a show, often multiple times, Nerenhausen added. “We realize that all of our theatrical productions are more than just an evening of entertainment. ”

Ticket packages are on sale for current subscribers. Packages for new subscribers will go on sale in April. There’s a seven-show package that starts at $300 and an eight-show package, which includes “Wicked,” that starts at $354. “The Miz” and “Beautiful” can be added to either package. Single tickets will go on sale at a later date.

“Tootsie” (June 20-25, 2023) – Another stage show based on another 1980s film. The 1982 film featured Dustin Hoffman as an unemployed actor who made it in female roles.

“Little Jagged Pill” (August 8-August 13, 2023) – The new musical is based on music by Alanis Morissette and has been nominated for 15 Tony Awards.

But where is ‘Hamilton’?

Broadway blockbuster “Hamilton” will be at the Orpheum from April 4 to May 3, 2023, but is not part of the 2022-23 season.
